Luxury influencer and Instagram sensation Sonam Babani aka 'fashioneiress' recently married her long-time boyfriend Neil Sanghvi in a gorgeous destination wedding in Switzerland. Although, the wedding that was set to happen in Europe in April 2020, got pushed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Still, the couple prevailed and first held an intimate mehendi and engagement in March 2021, followed by their wedding almost a year later in May 2022!

Held in the backdrop of the Switzerland mountains, the wedding was a surreal culmination of two years of waiting for the couple, with their friends and family in attendance.

Introducing Sonam Babani and Neil Sanghvi

Sonam and Neil have known each other since childhood, with their relationship maturing from friendship to something deeper and more intense. 

"So basically we grew up parallelly in the same environment, we had the same friends’ group. Although growing up, nothing happened, we were just friends then, but eventually, there was a little spark. And…still, nothing happened but in the last three years, there was a major emotional connection, and we knew that was it! I mean, where Neil had touched my heart, that feeling was irreplaceable!" says Sonam.

With the trendiest and most out of the box wedding hashtag of the year, the #NeilDownForSonam wedding isn't a story that takes place within a short span of time. It's the story of two childhood sweethearts that evolved over years. 

The Dreamy Proposal

Neil proposed to Sonam in the Maldives on 1st November 2019 at the private pool overwater villa at the Four Seasons, Maldives where they were vacationing. The pool was decorated with rose petals and the message ‘WILL YOU MARRY ME?’ was carefully floating on the water amidst the petals. Neil went down on one knee and proposed to Sonam with a big bright diamond ring, and just as she said yes, their families surprised them at the location.

Vibrant Mehendi Ceremony

While still planning their wedding, Sonam planned a two-day fun-filled celebration on 2nd & 3rd March 2021 in the rustic highlands of Khandala and Mumbai. Named 'The Flower Shower' party, the Mehendi included close family and friends and involved a generous dollop of flower decor and fun dancing. The outfits worn by the bride and groom were designed by Sabyasachi Mukerjee with jewellery by Sunita Shekhawat and to complete the look, shoes from Christian Louboutin!

Fun-filled Bridal Shower

Instead of a traditional bachelorette, Sonam chose to hold an elegant yet fun themed bridal shower. With a 'Naughty or Nice' theme, Sonam's imagination was brought to life with the help of amazing vendors like The Decor Company and Eat Drink Design! Sonam also included favours from brands like MAC Cosmetics and Jo Malone London, and the curated menu included food themed around the angel and devil pairings. Sonam also chose to dress herself up in a stunning little black dress paired with gorgeous Jimmy Choo heels!

Colourful Haldi Function

Talking about her Haldi look, Sonam revealed how she chose to model her outfit around Neil's. She picked a green velvet outfit with large floral prints while Neil picked a floral blue Kurta & Churidar ensemble from Sabyasachi. Furthermore, Sonam accessorised her entire look with silver jewellery! Brightly hued and decorated with yellow gypsophila and roses juxtaposed against a blue and white backdrop, the haldi ceremony was the most colourful event out of all!

Magical Destination Wedding

A wedding in white. Never did we ever think that we'd witness such a gorgeous wedding, teeming with white decor and a bride & groom in white outfits. Doused in crystals, both Neil and Sonam were dressed in regal white outfits by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. The bride's look was further enhanced with dainty diamond jewellery and glowy, glam makeup. Sonam was a vision in white as she walked down the aisle covered with rustic pink and teal flowers and foliage.
