And we, at ShaadiSaga, love a big fat Indian wedding that exhilarates us with all the wedding finery the world has to offer!

Weddings are ever-changing. New trends pop up here and there everywhere, all the time. And at the helm of these trends is one such modern love story of Umang and Nidhi that culminated in the #TheUMANIWedding, giving it an au courant update.

Meet Umang & Nidhi

For Umang and Nidhi, love brewed at a time and place they least expected it to.

With their parents being lifelong friends, the pair were introduced to each other on a trip to Canada. Soon, acquaintance turned into a friendship. And it wasn't long before they realised that they were meant to be together for the rest of their lives. The happy couple spent a long time in a long-distance relationship, with Umang being in London for his further studies. Love continued to strongly blossom between them. The head over heels kind of love. And soon, they decided that staying away from each other and being in a long-distance relationship wasn't enough.

And so, these two best friends turned soulmates, though not big on mushy romantic gestures, decided to seek out the thrills and adventures together for a lifetime to come.

Pre-Wedding Photoshoot

After their engagement cemented their commitment to get married, wedding bells were in order. Before their wedding, the couple had a dreamy pre-wedding photoshoot amongst sand dunes and old havelis.

The Wedding Festivities

Witnessing Umang & Nidhi's magnificent and glamourous wedding has given much inspiration to us. And with Swaaha Weddings planning their wedding, the couple added elements that symbolise their own personality to characterize the wedding by assigning a fun theme for every celebration! Check out all the fun festivities down below!

Siddhachakra Mahapujan

Both the families wished to kick off the wedding celebrations on an auspicious note and take blessings from the divine. For this the families held a grand Siddhachakra Mahapujan at Chintamani Parshwanath Derasar, Vile Parle, Mumbai.

Bohemian Henna

The couple began their wedding celebrations with a Mehendi ceremony. Rightly named, 'Bohemian Henna', all the family members stepped out in vibrant outfits with a festive mood. The bride, Nidhi, was dressed in a peppy green coloured lehenga by Papa Don't Preach by Shubhika for the Henna ceremony, while Umang wore a gota work bandhgala in white and gold designed by his cousin. The night was marked with not just a Mehendi celebration but a ton of choreographed performances by friends and family of the bride and groom that turned the function into a merry occasion.

Sangeet Night

Another occasion marked with endless music and foottapping, the Sangeet sandhya witnessed not just well-synchronised dance performances by friends and family but also solo acts by the bride and groom. For the Sangeet, Nidhi styled herself in a glimmering golden lehenga by Rare Heritage while Umang wore a velvet sherwani with black sequins work on the shoulder which was designed by his cousin as well. The night was glamourous and the highlight was glitzy and fublous at its best.

Shimmer Night & Cocktail

A night marked with lots of shimmer and a whole lot of shimmy was the Shimmer Night & Cocktail. For this event, the bride wore a sequenced gown by Eye Candy while the groom looked dapper in a red and black tux designed by his cousin. While the bride and groom shined brighter than ever, the highlight for sure was the disco ball shaped cake and the unlimited dhol that played.

Lagan Lakhvanu

A celebration we rarely get to witness, the Lagan Lakhvanu is where the wedding invitation is drafted and crafted by both the families. The bride wore a gorgeous aubergine lehenga by Mrinalini Rao and the groom wore a custom made a lavender kurta pyjama with white gold gota work. It took place at the Grand Ballroom of Hotel Sahara Star, where both the parties came together to celebrate the gorgeous wedding invitation designed for the #UMANIWedding.

Haldi

With an ocean facing view, the Haldi celebration was held at the Rooftop of Ramada Plaza Palm Grove. Themed as the ‘Bright In Yellow or White’, the entire venue was decorated in sunshine yellow and classic whitecolours, with a quirky elements here and there. The haldi not only boasted a wonderfully peppy decor, but also had elements like balloon popping games, a DIY paint stand, photo props and our favourite, a table full of snacks from our childhood days. For the Haldi, Nidhi dressed herself in an alternative dhoti style outfit in Label D while Umang wore a salmon pink kurta pyjama by Rare Heritage to match with his bride to be.

The Wedding Day

If you thought the previous functions were all things fabulous, wait till you see the wedding pictures. The groom stepped up looking dapper in a bespoke sherwani with full dhol as his tribe made way to the venue. Dressed in a deep marron Sabyasachi Lehenga and a royal ensemble of jewellery by Chunilal Jewellers, the bride stepped out on a garland shaped palaquin towards the jaimala stage. After the jaimala and the fireworks were over, the bride and groom moved ahead for the pheras.

Grand Reception Party

The wedding and reception were a grand affair that took place at the JVPD Ground in Juhu. The wedding was followed by a Reception party to commemorate and celebrate the happy union. For the reception, the bride looked fab in a Gaurav Gupta gown, while the groom showed up in a classic black tuxedo by Just Men.
