The Wedding Filmer Founder Vishal Punjabi’s Bollywood-Esque Wedding to Nikki Krishnan: A Cinematic Love Story
Vishal Punjabi, better known as The Wedding Filmer, is a legend in wedding cinematography. He’s captured over 500 weddings, including those of Bollywood stars like Anushka Sharma & Virat Kohli and Deepika Padukone & Ranveer Singh. But when his big day came around, it was nothing short of a real-life movie.
The story began in 2021 when Vishal met Nikki Krishnan, a periodontist from London, at a wedding. After months of long-distance courtship, Vishal proposed to Nikki at the Triyuginarayan Temple in Kedarnath. They had a white wedding in London some time back.
Vishal & Nikki's love story wasn’t complete without a traditional Indian wedding, so they planned a destination wedding with a twist: no work for Vishal. “We wanted it to be deeply personal,” he says. So, they headed to Rajasthan for an intimate celebration at the stunning Amanbagh resort in Ajabgargh, with just 100 close friends and family.

Pre-Wedding Vibes: The Mehendi & Holi Haldi
The festivities started in Mumbai with a Mehendi ceremony at Vishal’s bougainvillea-clad studio. The couple matched in pink outfits by designer Akanksha Gajria—Vishal wore a kurta with swirling dervishes, a motif close to his heart. The vibes were laid-back, fun, and full of colour.

Next came the Holi-inspired Haldi ceremony. With rain machines and a water tanker in tow, the event was straight out of a Bollywood monsoon sequence. "It was like a scene from a movie," Vishal says, channelling his Bollywood background (he worked with Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment). It was wild, messy, and unforgettable. Nikki wore a white saree with a yellow patchy print and Vishal in a white pyjama.

The highlight? A jam session around the fire where Vishal serenaded Nikki with the help of his musician friends. The couple wore custom pieces from The Delhi Vintage Co., with Nikki rocking a centuries-old Jamdhani design woven in organza, with a tissue corset that made her look as powerful as she is beautiful.

Vishal's outfit was made from tribal Kutch fabric, woven by the Rabaris, an ancient tribe from Gujarat, and lined with Ajrakh, it carried stories of thousands of years. Topped with a Rajasthani turban and custom jewellery, it made him feel regal, rooted, and real, all at once.

For Vishal, this wedding wasn’t just about the grand moments. It was about making sure everything felt authentic and personal. The wedding was planned by Vishal’s friends Tina Tharwani and Saurabh Malhotra of Shaadi Squad, with whom he had a personal connection. He even called Tina when he first met Nikki, saying, "I’m going to marry this girl, and you’re going to plan it."

The couple’s photographer crew—Joseph Radhik and Sam & Ekta—were all familiar faces for Vishal, who’s worked with them countless times before. These people understood his vision, which was all about capturing their love story in a way that felt real.
Vishal also decided to skip the traditional baraat and instead had a simple, meditative dhol ceremony post-wedding. "I wanted to be centred and present at the moment," he shares. It was a move away from the loud, chaotic tradition of Bollywood-style baraats, which Vishal had witnessed at hundreds of weddings.
