"Sarojini ke kapde pehenkar jaati madam disco!"

Every time we hear this excerpt from the famous Bollywood song, 'Saturday Saturday' (from Humpty Sharma ki Dulhaniya), we're reminded how exciting' and fun it is to shop at Sarojini. As one of the biggest and most famous markets in Delhi (after Chandni Chowk, of course!), Sarojini Nagar has been the holy grail for all college-going girls for years for all fashion shopping. It's reasonable, versatile and trendy all at the same time. But that's now all that it's known for.

From heavy bridal lehengas to budget-friendly gifts for bridesmaids and an unending variety of jewellery at throwaway prices, Sarojini Nagar is a market ideal for inexpensive wedding shopping. In fact, Sarojini Nagar also boasts of umpteen shops selling miscellaneous goods for your wedding like safaschoodas, laces, kaleerassehra, sindoor boxes, decorated ring trays & thaalis, etc.

So, hop on as we expand our #WBShoppingGuide with the galis of this dainty market area and explore the perfect places for wedding trousseau shopping with the Sarojini Nagar Shopping Guide For Weddings.

Sarojini Nagar Wedding Shopping Guide

How To Reach Sarojini Nagar?

One of the easiest ways of reaching the Sarojini Nagar market is via the metro. You need to get down at the Sarojini Nagar metro station on the Pink Line. The metro station opens right in front of the market, so you don't have to travel a lot on foot. The other metro station closest to this market is INA on the Yellow Line. You can also take a cab to this place and get down at the market's entrance. We, however, recommend you not to drive your own car there as the market is very crowded and has no designated parking space for visitors. If you still plan on getting your vehicle, then you can park it at the multi-level parking of Sarojini Nagar, which is generally full.

Travelling inside the market is another story. You cannot take autos, rickshaws or any other form of vehicle inside. The street market is extremely crowded and can only be transversed on foot. So, we urge you to keep your stamina, because you're gonna need a lot of it.

(Pro tip: Carry a water bottle with you, so that you can keep sipping on some to stay hydrated!)

Important Tips To Note Down For Shopping At Sarojini Nagar

1. The market is closed on Mondays.

2. Carry a spare shopping bag with you where you can keep your things. This is because shopkeepers generally give their things in cheap polybags, which is hazardous for the environment. In case you forget it, then buy one at a low price from one of the local vendors there. 👜

3. Bargain like it's hot! Brush up your bargaining skills before you hit the streets of Sarojini as everything goes!

4. The best time to step into Sarojini is when it opens at around 10-11 am. The shopkeepers sell things at throwaway prices because it's the first sale of the day.

5. It opens from 11 am to 9 pm.

6. Avoid Saturdays and Sundays as it's too crowded, especially if there is a festival around the corner.

7. Carry cash with you as very fewer vendors accept cards or online forms of payment.

8. Dress comfortably, as you're going to walk a lot.

9. Since it is a crowded space, ensure you keep your bags and wallets safe.

Food Stops!

Shopping can be taxing. It's hard work even if it's therapeutic. However, every retail therapy deserves a healthy dose of sugar, spice and everything nice. Much like Chandni Chowk, Karol Bagh and South Ex, Sarojini Nagar has its own restaurants with years of service legacies behind them. And if none of these works for you or if you fear Delhi belly, you have McDonald’s, Rollmaal and Haldiram’s at DLF South Square Mall next door. Relaxing and grabbing a bite at these places is what you need, as it has been a long day indeed.

1. Kwic Bitte

One of the few spots in Sarojini which has seating, Kwic Bitte offers south Indian and Indian Chinese. Their momos are a must-try, as they're bigger than an average momo and juicy to the last bite!

2. Khatta Meetha

True to its name, Khatta Meetha serves an array of sweet and sour chaat, pao bhaji, aloo tikki and golgappas. And if you feel the heat, then get your hands on their matka kulfi.

3. Kulcha King

One of the famous takeaway stations of Sarojini, this tiny place serves hot and scrumptious stuffed kulchas with mouth-watering choley.

4. Shahi Dahi Bhalla

Every market space has its own Dahi Bhalla place and this is Sarojini's. Not only do they serve amazing Dahi Bhallas but their alloo tikki chaat and gol gappas are to die for!
