Not everyday we come across an eco-friendly 'green wedding' where there are so many sustainable ideas to bookmark for your wedding. And, today's wedding is all about that. On this World Environment Day that happens to be today, we thought to inspire you with this couple who met over a beach clean drive and that's where their romantic love story began! Always planning to have an eco-friendly wedding, Nupur (a marketing professional) & Ashwin (a Merchant Navy officer) knowing the fact that on average, every Indian wedding generates 30 to 40kgs of waste (mostly plastic waste) this duo knew that they could not let happen this on their D-day. Thus, they looked out for minimal waste wedding options for catering, decoration, clothing, and travel for their oh-so-gorgeous Pune wedding, which is an inspiration to all future intimate weddings!

Introducing Nupur & Ashwin's 'Green Wedding' in Pune

Met through common friends and bonded at a beach clean-up, Ashwin Malwade, and Nupur Agarwal's mutual passion about the environment brought them closer, which soon started as a weekend ritual. Cleaning the beaches for more than three years now and highly inspired by their mentor Afroz Shah, an environmental activist who sparked the environment consciousness within them.

Ensuring that there was no harm caused to the environment by the nuptial ceremonies they said, "We both believe that our environment comes first, before any celebration and we always thought that if we ever plan to get married, then we surely will be having an eco-friendly wedding. In fact, many people asked us how we were so motivated by this work? The reality is that the more people we see coming with us and working towards saving our mother earth is what makes us more inspired to make the change."

Believing that if they can't do it, who else can? Knowing the fact that someone needs to start this cause this twosome naturally decided to tie the knot where they were highly committed to having a minimal waste wedding. Nupur & Ashwin said, "We would like to tell folks that we all have had enough of a life of convenience, now given the situation we've to look towards a life of survival! We would like everyone to start working towards a sustainable life, even small changes in your lifestyle can make a difference be it the use of glass bottles instead of plastic ones, reducing the use of earbuds or straws, and protect the marine life wherever possible. We don't want to preach anything but request everyone to give it a try, it's not impossible!"

Fun-Filled Vatna Ceremony Where Couple Drenched In Haldi!

Picking OYO Rooms and Blue Diamond as their venues for their wedding bells, Ashwin and Nupur consciously chose Pune as their wedding destination as the city has a very evolved recycling system. Check out their stunning images captured by one and only WhatKnot Wedding Photography, Mumbai

Eco-Friendly Wedding With Minimal Waste Wedding Options

For their wedding day, Ashwin & Nupur decided to take their wedding vows in Pune cos this city has one of the best Recycling services available in India. From their upcycled decor elements to food waste segregation this 'green wedding' is perfect from every angle.

Upcycled Wedding Decor Elements

Spending months planning their wedding decor for Ashwin and Nupur, it was about keeping it basic and using upcycled material. Using Exotic flowers, colourful drapes, etc. this duo used flowers but ensured that they got into composting the very next day!

Go Green With The Baraat!

Gone are the days, when grooms use to enter only on beautifully adorned Ghodi. Ditching the concept of a regular Baraat, our groom-of-the-day, Ashwin kept it sweet and simple and chose to enter driving in an electric car instead.

Organic Clothing For Dulha-Dulhan

The outfits of the bride and the groom were completely handmade from organic cotton. Nupur’s lehenga was from Falguni Designs, which had hashtags like #BeatPlasticPollution and #SaveThePlanet embroidered on it, while Ashwin’s sherwani from TISA Studios had #ClimateCrisis on it.

Eco-Friendly Wedding Favours With Food Waste Segregation On Point!

We all know how much food wastage happens at Indian weddings. This couple came up with food waste segregation. Where segregation of food waste is extremely important for easy recycling. Nupur & Ashqin made sure that the entire waste was segregated into dry and wet waste and even encouraged their caterers - Uttam Caterers, to use bagasse products instead of plastic for the crockery.

And, guess what? Yes, they had saplings as wedding favours for their guests. 4 plants for each guest - To make up for the carbon emissions, the couple decided to plant four trees for every guest that showed up at their wedding. They had already planted a couple of saplings before their D-day.
