1. Get in Shape

As with all things best, consistency is key. Sweat it out however you like - go gymming, play your favourite sport, run or dance, but get to your ideal shape and body weight early on and make it a habit you’ll never leave! Book an appointment with your dentist for whitening, bleaching treatments or braces as maybe needed, since they take some to settle in.

Now, for the MAKEUP!

1. Perfect Your Base

Makeup blends effortlessly well with naturally prepped, fresh skin. Make it a habit to exfoliate once a week with a good AHA-BHA rich face wash if you have oily skin and deep moisturise 3-4 hours before the event and wipe off any product residue if you have dry skin. Also, stay away from harsh face wash and overwashing your face. Use a primer for perfecting the base before building any makeup over it.

2. Conceal well

Instead of applying a layer of foundation, put effort into finding a shade of concealer that matches your skin tone the best and cover up scars, spots, razor knicks and cuts, blemishes. For dark circles, use orange cream eyeshadow if you have red undertone and green eyeshadow if you have yellow undertone and dab one layer of liquid concealer once at a time. If you have dark lips, consider applying the thinnest layer of concealer on your lips and eyelids as well. To blend the look together, dots of foundation around your scars will make your face flawlessly emerge.

3. Highlighting

If you choose to keep your beard, ensure it’s trimmed, dyed and shaped well. Dots of a concealer shade, one shade darker than your perfect skin tone will add depth and character to your face and make your jawline look stronger and sharper.

4. Brow Grooming

Pluck any strays between or around your brows with tweezers. You can also get your brows waxed or shaped at your salon as may be recommended for you. Fill in any sparse gaps with brown eyebrow powder or pencil to enhance their natural shape. Use brow gel to set them in place if you have bushy eyebrows. Perfect eyebrows that frame your face will raise all eyebrows (for all the right reasons!)

5. Beard Grooming

Goatee, light or dark stubble, french beard, mutton chops - natural or dyed, salt and pepper or white, you choose! Choose a look that suits your personal style and ensemble for your wedding day. Take inspiration from Pushpak Sen, Coco Balluci!

6. Defining Your Eyes

If you choose to go the traditional way, north indian grooms apply kajal in their eyes, bengali grooms apply kolka chandan bindi - a paste made out of rice, sandalwood paste and herbs and grooms down south apply sandalwood paste or ash as tilak. Choose and plan your look and headgear accessories according to any annointments you’d wish to have on your forehead. You could also choose coloured lenses to add character and depth to your demeanour. Case in point - Siddharth Batra and Ankush Bahuguna!

7. Care for your lips

Refrain from smoking if you do and apply a nourishing lip balm before a sleep prior to your wedding for naturally tempting pucker worthy lips! If chapsticks are too girly for you, a jar of vaseline or boroline will do the trick for you. No one better than Deep Pathare for that here!

8. Headgear

Align your headgear with your hairstyle and choose the cut, colour, shape and styling for your tresses accordingly. If you choose to don a turban or cover your head the traditional way, ensure your hair sits well comfortably beneath for long hours of rituals without causing discomfort. Alternatively if you choose to keep them flowing free, with a slightly longer length, blow-dry them well for perfect locks and set it in with sprays and gels that will hold well in heat and light.

A professional makeup artist can help you with advanced makeup like eyeshadow and mascara makeup if you choose to. Here’s a case for giving grooms the pampering and limelight they have always been worth! Try a stroke of brushes, on the canvas that you are or speed dial the best MUA in your town now.
