Well, coming across a wedding being hosted at a new and super unique destination gets us jumping off our chairs in excitement and something similar happened when we received Rohit & Maithili's big-fat Punjabi wedding in our mail that took place at Baku, Azerbaijan. Baku is famously known for its flamboyant architecture, its nightlife and is a giant mix of cultures.

Rohit & Maithili marked as the very first Indian couple to get married at this offbeat destination and we're so honored to feature their wedding. Hosted at the Fairmont and at Four Seasons Hotel in Baku, their wedding surely was the most-talked-about affair in the country of Azerbaijan.

From the Gatsby decor to traditional rituals & ceremonies, Rohit & Maithili's 5-day long wedding extravaganza was a beautiful fusion of desi punjabi sho-sha and sophisticated Azeri culture.

Having said that, the crew of ace wedding planners, Chapter 2 Events left no stone unturned and pulled off this wedding remarkably at this newly discovered destination making it one captivating festivity. The lens of Imprint Studio quintessentially captured the true aesthetics of this gorgeous wedding.

So let's not linger any further and dig right into their hep wedding ceremonies!

Rohit and Maithili's Scintillating Wedding Ceremonies

Je Aan Nu - The Punjabi Welcome in Baku

For the grand punjabi style welcome 'The Jazz Club' at the Fairmont was completely transformed into a vibrant Pind that stuck true to the state’s essence and vibe. With dhols, uber cool and fun signages, pagdi walas and a truck-style bar, the club spelt Assi Punjabi in every way. Adding more charm to the night was the performance of the legendary duo Hari and Sukhmani that enlivened everybody and got their soul grooving. For the night, both Rohit and Maithili donned traditional punjabi outfits in bright hues of burnt orange by ASAL.

Mehndi Mehfil

Entwining two cultures together by setting up a sufi mehfil and incorporating Azeri henna ceremony, the day made up for a unique experience for every wedding attendee. While the local Azeri artists were busy etching henna onto the guest’s, the mehndi bazaar was the real highlight with favors like potlis, peacock feather fans, bangles etc. Taking the surreal ambience of the day a notch above was the Pakistani sufi legend Ustad Shafqat Ali Khan weaving his sufi magic that left people entranced (not to forget the sheeshas and cigars that people enjoyed for a complete laid-back mehfil unwinding!)
While Rohit wore a classic beige and gold bandhgala set, Maithili opted for a blue and green Sabyasachi ensemble.

Bollywood Dreams - The Sangeet Night

Rohit and Maithili’s sangeet night was one glamorous and super filmy affair. With a Vogue magazine cover photobooth, neon-lit 'Save Water Drink Champagne' signage and a shimmery bar, the decor was all glam and glitzy. For their sangeet, world-famous Punjabi singer Hardy Sandhu set the stage on fire and left the guests blown outta their wits. Maithili slipped into a heavily embellished off-shoulder floor length anarkali in royal blue from ASAL by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla and Rohit wore a lightly embroidered peacock blue achkan set from Vavci.

The Shimmery Wedding

Rohit’s fun-filled baraat took over the streets of Baku from Philarmonic Park to Four Seasons Hotel and was one spectacle for the people of Baku making them go gaga over this first ever Indian wedding. The Indian dhols were joined by vivacious Azeri dancers and drummers that led to a crazy jugalbandi among them, making it one crazy baraat. Keeping up with the white and beige theme of the wedding, the decor was done in gorgeous white flowers making the place look elegant and serene. Coordinating his outfit with the decor Rohit donned a collar embellished ivory and beige sherwani with gold detailings from Vavci and Maithili, on the other hand, teamed a metallic silver and ruby pink Tarun Tahiliani lehenga with stunning diamond jewellery encrusted with rubies.

A Night in Baku - The Reception

The reception night being an ode to the Azeri culture, was one happening celebration and clearly a night to remember. For the apt feels, the venue was made up into an Azeri garden where trees were erected with real branches and decorated with over 2000 kilos of real & fresh fruits. No wonder the venue looked and smelled of an enchanted orchard. From showcasing their traditional works of calligraphy, carpet weaving etc., to dazzling performances, the Azeri artists casted their cultural spell perfectly. The classy tablescapes with antique centerpieces decorated with flowers and fruits added just the right amount of glam to the authentic cultural setting. While Rohit looked looked class apart in a tux from Kachins, Maithili looked ravishing as ever in an embellished Sabyasachi saree.

Some Tips From the Wedding Planners - Chapter 2 Events

Tip #1: We always suggest families to hire their Wedding Planners well in advance. This helps steer the planning process smoothly & relieves the family from all the stress to begin with.
Tip #2: It is extremely important to trust your planners. After sharing your vision, budget & thoughts, let your planners present you with the best they have!
Tip #3: Having one or select set of members as a point of contact from the family, facilitates efficient delivery. As they rightly say, "too many cooks spoil the broth". Wedding Planning can go wrong at many levels if not handled with care.
Tip #4: The key to successful & productive planning is also by having a warm, friendly equation between planners and the host families. If they feel like a part of the families, the planners will go to great lengths in delivering their best and that's exactly what one wants for their special day!
