Perfect is how I wanted my mehendi function to be. But when I got into the intricacies of planning decor of my mehendi, I realised how difficult and crazy it would be!
Mehendi is one event where YOU can have full control – right from décor and theme to food and drinks, YOU can have what YOU please. So, I decided to stick to what I’d always dreamt of - a colourful poolside mehendi. The best part was buying everything on my own. Running from one market to another to grab that perfect prop was a hard nut to crack but as well as a stress buster.

Decor
The vision that I had for mehendi was to make it colourful, so that it becomes apt for the theme - Sufi Night - as we had called in for a live music band. The colours that ruled the decor were green, fuchsia pink and orange.
What The Decor Consisted Of:

There were tables, lower sittings and charpayis to make it more ethnic and rooted.

I used props such as kaleere, elongated glases, small lamps, ethnic cushions, embroidered umbrellas to make it more playful.

For myself, I had a jhoola near the pool with genda ke phool, carnations and marigolds.

- Charpayis from Rajouri Garden (New Delhi) market near my place, cost around Rs 3,000
- Cushion covers from Urban Ladder, cost around Rs 8,000 for 10
- Umbrellas from Amazon and Kinari Bazaar (New Delhi), cost around Rs 1600 for 6
- Kalire from Karol Bagh market (New Delhi), cost around Rs 1200
- Fancy Hangings from Lightinthebox.com & Kinari Bazaar (New Delhi), cost around Rs 700
Tips For All The Brides-To-Be Planning Their Own Mehendi
#1 Make a group on WhatsApp with members (who are responsible for the decor purchases) and the decorator to discuss all the colours and minute detailing.
#2 Always put the mehendi 4-5 hours prior to function. This way, you can enjoy every bit of the function and look over the arrangements in the function.
#3 Before deciding on live bands, think of the people who will not be comfortable with it. Therefore, keeping this in mind, I arranged a DJ for the after party.
#4 You can buy cheap and yet trendy mehendi favours from Kinari Bazaar (New Delhi). Don’t get into the trap of fancy Instagram pages.
#5 Consider the weather conditions before fixing on the venue. As I had a poolside mehendi in April, I made it to a point to arrange mist fans with the normal ones.
#6 I kept my hair loose with soft curls but this turned into a disaster. It was hot and plus kind of uncontrollable. So, a suggestion for all brides to be, to enjoy your last bachelor night do keep your hair tied.
#7 Since I knew I was going to be sloshed by the end of the night, I decided to wear dupatta with a belt to be at ease.
