Everything You Need to Know About Diamond Engagement Rings

The 4C’s

Ladies, when buying a diamond engagement ring, keep in mind the 4Cs that are Cut, Carat, Clarity, and Colour. While the carat plays the biggest role in determining the size and cost of the ring, don’t ignore the other 3Cs. The 3Cs may not seem important in front of the size of the diamond, however, in the long run, you’ll realize that the cut, clarity, and colour are also major factors when buying a diamond ring.

1. Cut

Out of the 4C's, the cut of the diamond is one of the most important ones. It is determined by symmetry, proportion, and polish. More than any other factor the cut of the diamond determines the beauty of the stone.

2. Carat

The Carat of the diamond indicates the weight of the diamond and not actually the size. The weight can differ according to the diamond shape such as round brilliant, princess, pear, oval, cushion, marquise, emerald, radiant, or heart. A diamond may have a higher carat weight without looking larger so carat weight does not necessarily denote size.

3. Clarity

Diamond clarity is to measure the purity and rarity of the stone. It is graded by the visibility of these characteristics under 10-power magnification. A diamond with a poor clarity grade has multiple inclusions that directly affect sparkle.

4. Colour

When it comes to diamonds, colour refers to the natural colour tint in white diamonds. Usually, most white diamonds have a slight tint of yellow. The more colourless a diamond is, the rarer it is!

Price Range

When considering the price range of the diamond engagement ring, you can still compromise on the colour and clarity to get a larger stone. What you can do is compromise on the colour but go with a brilliant cut. The many facets of the cut will hide imperfections if any. Oh, and if you’re after a step-cut stone then always, always choose clarity over colour!

A diamond ring starts from INR 40,000 and can easily go up to Lakhs in cost.
